This is how I view myself as an English Teacher.

1. I have adequate level of proficiency which enables me to feel confident when teaching English as a second language to my students.

2. I always think of effective approaches in teaching the language items. It is to ensure that my students understand them well. Sometimes my approach is a bit radical but it works with proven results.

3. I always try to identify my students' weaknesses, then I will think of the ways to overcome those weaknesses. My seminar
"The Secret To writing A+ Essays", is an example of how I solve students' essay writing problem.

5. My favourite moment in teaching life is when my students tell me that they scored an A for English and offer me their gratitude from the bottom of their hearts. It happens every year...

Sample Answer (Step by Wicked Step)

Sample Question:
Choose a character that you admire from a novel that you have learned in Form 5. With close reference to the text, give reasons to support your answer.

I choose the novel Step by Wicked Step, written by Anne Fine. The character that I admire is Claudia. There are many reasons why I admire her very much.

First of all, I admire Claudia because she is a gentle person. Listening to Richard's sad story, makes her weep. Besides, she is loyal to her mother. She tries not to sound too happy when speaking to her father because she does not want to hurt her mother's feeling. She rejects Stella and refuses to enjoy her time with her father out of loyalty to her mother. She knows that her parents break-up is serious even though her mother sounded cheerful.

Apart from that, I really admire Claudia because she is a fair and sensible person. She does not blame Stella for her parents' break-up. At the dinner party, she thinks that the guests are rude for not appreciating Stella's hard work. She realizes that ignoring Stella would not help solving matters between her parents. Feeling sorry for Stella who is being ignored by the guests, she decides to help her get accepted by showing off the green pyjamas which Stella gave her.

In a nutshell, the character that I admire from Step by Wicked Step is Claudia because she is gentle, loyal, fair and sensible. I think we could learn a lot from her character.

Dear Lyna,
I cannot give any comment because I don't see your paper. What school are you from? Maybe your teacher has different idea on what the answer should look like. However, based on my experience, if you write the way I did here you should get at least 13/15.

Maybe i know the answer for Lyna question.. Because not all question is about tell your reasons why you admire the character.. Somtimes the question want you to write about the story of the character and explain why you admire/like this character.. That's why i think.. I'm not if it's right..

golly no offence teacher but aren't you s'pose to say: i *didn't see your paper? you gave a VERY nice answer by the way and i personally agree that if she wrote it exactly the same way she should get higher marks. of course there are other possibilities to this problem. 1: just MAYBE the evidence isn't good enough (which i highly doubt) 2. maybe since she memorized the answer she gave away some grammar mistakes.

Hi haziqdaniel,
Thanks for dropping by...and for the nice comment too. I understand what you mean...We use past tense when referring to something that happened in the past, and the time is stated, as in this example: "I didn't see your paper yesterday." In my case, it is a general statement where simple present tense is most relevant. :-)
